An Animagus is a witch or wizard who can turn into a particular animal at will. Each Animagus has a specific animal form and cannot transform into any other animal. An Animagus cannot chose which animal form they gain – it is based on their true personality and similarity to the animal. Whilst in their animal form, an Animagus still maintains their human mind and powers of reasoning and memory. Becoming an Animagi is learnt, and the person must have a natural skill for transfiguration.

Centaurs are a fusion of human and horse that can come in a variety of colours. They have the body of a horse and the head, torso and arms of a human. They are highly intelligent and are forest-dwelling creatures. Some live in the Forbidden Forest in the Hogwarts Grounds.

Demons are intelligent and their appearance is of a normal human. They can only breed with other demons, meaning that there is no such thing as a half-demon. Most demons have a power over an element, such as Water or Fire. They normally use these powers not for good, but for evil deeds, which is how they first aquired the nickname of being 'fallen angels'.

A half-giant is a cross-breed between a human and a giant. It is unlikely that the human parent will be Muggle, since Muggles generally do not know of the existence of magical beings and creatures, thus a half-giant will inherit magical ability from their human parent, unless he or she was a Squib. From their giant parent they gain great size, strength, and resistance to many spells that would harm ordinary magical folk. Despite their giant blood, half-giants are not necessarily weak spellcasters.

Legilimency is the act of magically navigating through the many layers of a person's mind and correctly interpreting one's findings. Laymen sometimes refer to Legilimency as "mind-reading", but practitioners disdain this term as naive.

This is the ability to change some or all of your appearance at will. It is a very rare ability as it can only be inherited, not learnt.

The skill of Occlumency allows a person to block the efforts of a Legilimens to probe their thoughts and memories. It can prevent a Legilimens from accessing one's thoughts and feelings, or influencing them.

Parselmouths have the ability to speak Parseltongue (snake language). Salazar Slytherin was famous for having this ability, and it is commonly associated with Dark Magic, even though it is not necessarily an evil quality. Being a Parselmouth is a skill that has to be inherited genetically and learnt (or by use of dangerous and Dark Magic).

A Seer is a witch or wizard with the clairvoyant ability to predict future events. The predictions given through this ability can sometimes be self-fulfilling prophecies, but not all predictions come true, depending on the choices made by those mentioned. A Seer predicts possible or likely events, but not definite ones. This ability is inherited, or, if a witch or wizard has a special talent for Divination, can be learnt with a lot of hard work.

Vampires are magical beings that are pale and gaunt in appearance. They have a longer life span than humans, living to be over three hundred years old. However, they are not eternal, and die from old age or by being killed by another vampire. Vampires can breed with other vampires, or inter-breed with humans. A born vampire stops aging physically at some point in their life before the age of hundred, but they cannot chose when. A bitten vampire maintains the physical appearance that they had when they were human. Vampires have an aversion to garlic and live on a diet of blood.

These are a race of semi-human, semi-magical creatures who appear to be beautiful, young human women. When full Veelas are angry, they turn into a bird-like creature with cruel-beaked bird heads and long scaly wings. Whilst angry, they can also throw balls of fire from their hands. Veelas can inter-breed with wizards, although it is unknown if they can with muggles. Veela traits seem to persist for at least a few generations, although boys born to a Veela possess no abilities, only that they are not affected by the charms of other Veelas.

The werewolf is a creature that exists only for a brief period around the full moon. At any other time, a werewolf is a normal human. A person becomes a werewolf when bitten by another in wolf-form. Once this happens, the person must learn to manage the condition. Occasionally, this condition (or disease) can be passed down through parentage.
