This evening Dorcas' search was related to her charms work. She was still stuck at the OWL level so was going over her old notebook again. While she'd never be an animagus being able to change things like her eye colour and hair colour by magic would be beneficial in her modelling career.
So she left her notes and bag by the nearby table and went looking for a book on beauty charms. Thankfully she didn't have to go too far as she reached up for a book. One she couldn't quite reach. It also looked quite wedged in so off she went to look for a set of steps otherwise she'd have brought a shower of books down on top of her.
Ah.. there they were as she picked them up.. only to realise they were heavier than they looked. Said steps went clattering to the floor and an almight racket followed. As solid oak impacted with the stone floor the quietness of the library was disturbed.

Pollius had been up been up half the night going over his notebook and checking the stock books. Pouring himself a cup of coffee he drank the lovely warm sweet fluid and started arranging his papers. Just when he went to put them away he heard an almighty clatter that made him jump and send half the papers across the floor. Waving his wand and sending them back to the table, where he would resort them when he got back. Walking out of his office he briskly walked toward where the clatter had come from.
When he got there the first thing he saw was a young girl standing over some fallen steps. Walking over quickly he knelt down and helped her pick them up. "So how did this happen" He asked her in his soft voice. It had a small hint of German in there as he had spent a few years in Germany but it was starting to fade now and he was gradually getting his English accent back. And not a minute to soon. He was tired of people assuming he was German. "Anyway. Do you need any help with anything." He asked her.

Just great. It was the librarian but she could help herself once she had the steps set up. "I'll be fine once I get the steps set up. It happened because I didn't realise the steps were so heavy" she gently replied as she lifted them. This time she wasn't caught out as she used both hands to handle the heavy wooden steps.
So carrying them to where she needed she pulled them out and stepped up them. Now she could reach the book as her determination showed. She wasn't helpless once she had what she needed.

He could tell by her expresions that she wasn't exactly pleased to see him. "You've got nothing to worry about I'm not here to shout at you." Well that wasn't exactly true. She had after all made his notes fly everywhere. So that made a few more sleepless nights. But never mind that now he was here to help her if she needed it.
He followed her over to where she went and watched her pull down a book. "If its OWL charms books your after You'd be better of this one." He moved the ladder over a bit, went up it, and came back down with the book, An experianced wizards guide to Charms. He held the book out to the girl and waited to see if she would take it.

He ascended after she'd pulled her book down. A little look of frustration crossed her mind since she should have been taking NEWT level charms. She couldn't understand why she was still in the OWL class having optained an qualification in the subject.
Frustration which might eventually boil over and end up with her telling Professor Sithe to take her off his student list. It wasn't seen very often but it could happen since she would have have to sit through another year of OWL work and not have the time to do a NEWT properly. She'd also been held back in History of Magic which didn't help her frustrations and her mood at times.
"Thank you" she softly replied as she took the other book. She was more concerned with the practical charms she'd need as a model rather than what she'd learn in class.

She took the book from him and thanked him for it. "Your very welcome. Now if you need anything I'll just be in my office sorting out some paperwork." He said to her nodding his head in the direction of his office.
Walking away and entering his office he sat down at the desk and waved hs wand. Soon he had a cup of coffee in his hands and was ready to once again sort through all the paperwork jumbled on his desk. Draining his cup he put it down and began his work. He wasn't sure how long it would take though. It ussaly ranged between a few hours or a few nights.

Dorcas returned the nod, went to the table she'd picked out and started note taking. Starting with the book the librarian had suggested the little nuggets of information were near the surface. So her quill scribbled, pages turned and she learned.
There were different hair colouring charms. Some were colour dependant. Some only lasted a few hours, others a few days and a select few a few weeks. Some came from a potion bottle and others were spells. So as she worked Dorcas kept taking her notes until she yawned. She'd fall asleep here if she kept this up much longer.
Now it was time to check out the books and for that she needed the librarian. So she took them to his office.

Pollius's head was on his desk with his eyes shut and him snoring. He was meant to be doing his paperwork and figuring out whoever had overdue books and had to return them. He was awoken by a knock at his door. His head flying up scattering a few of the papers, he quickly knelt down picked them up and put them back on his desk.
Standing up he quickly brushed himself down and went over to the door and pulled it open. He saw the girl standing there and asked her "Yes anything I can help you with." She had some books in her hand, so she obviously wanted to get them out, but he found it best to ask anyway.

"Please could I check these out ?" Dorcas softly asked. She was sure she'd heard snoring from here just as she'd reached the door but wasn't sure. So leaving the books on his desk until he did that she had a question and it was more test a theory.
"Is it true that guys prefer blondes?" she softly asked out of the blue. The engagement ring she wore showed she was taken already. From what she'd seen at school that statement didn't always hold true but asking a grown up guy woud give her another insight.

So she did want to check them out. His first instinct had been right. She went to put them on his desk and he cleared some of the papers of to make some room for her. Then out of the blue came a quistion he hadn't been expecting "Is it true that guys prefer blondes?" This kind of woke him up as he wanted to tell her the truth from his mind. Well I kind of think it varys for differant guys. For me I don't mind I believe It's whats on the inside that counts." This was true for him but not for most guys. "Sorry you wanted to get these books out." Pulling out his wand he waved it over the book then over a piece of blank parcement. Her name house year and book appeared and the date they were to be back. "Here you go then. Just make sure there back in 3 weeks." He handed her the books and went back to his desk.

Dorcas had an answer of sorts. It was obvious the librarian wasn't most guys by his answer. So it might confirm the generality of the statement that 'gentleman prefer blondes'. Taking to a guy nearly twice her age about something like this might be daunting to some girls but not Dorcas.
Then came the next question from this curious soul as she slipped the books into her bag. "I've always wondered about this. My mother was a redhead and my graduated sister went dark haired as soon as she could. So perhaps that shows you can't generalise. Perhaps you should change the statement to 'more gentlemen prefer blondes' and you'd find a level of truth."
She'd seen plenty of blonde models over the years. More than anyother hair colour. Dorcas always had mousy brown hair so it took eye makeup to make her stand out in front of the camera. Unlike blondes who seemed to have it easy. They stood out very easily.

He listened to this as he sorted out a bit more paperwork so he wouldn't be up so late tonight. "Well for one I agree the statement should be 'more gentlemen prefer blondes' and as for your sister and mother changing there hair coulour I'm guessing that you might want to as well. Because if you do I might have a good book for you. He walked out the room and walked back to the charms section. He climbed up the ladder and started looking around. He found the book he wanted. A models guide to hair coulour. He wasn't sure if the girl actully wanted to become a model but if she did this book was perfect for helping her. Walking back to his office he handed it to the girl and asked "Would this be of any help?" He placed it on the desk and waited to see if she would take it.

"I'll probally add some highlights to my natutral hair colour or else go red" Dorcas replied as she accepted the book and flicked over it. "So many models are blonde you wouldn't believe it. I've seen that trend since I started helping my father out; before I came to Hogwarts. I've also modeled for him since I was 11 and worked behind the camera for a few years as well.
Its the photographic studio wedged in between the butchers and the bakers in the village. Theres also a muggle studio in London but thats purely for modeling. The wizarding studio is more general" she gently replied. She was also a partner in the business and worked in the Hogsmeade branch over the weekend if she was needed.

He put a hand up to his hair and started fiddling with it. It was as white as snow, so most people thought he was 40 plus, but he was only 31. She accepted the book and began looking over it. He was the tallest man in the village. But seriously I did look up to him as my role model in life. He sighed but then looked up and realized that she was still there. "Sorry I've been babbling on. Was there anything else you needed?" He asked.

Dorcas had picked up most of what he'd said but the little bit about his childhood brought a smile to her face. She couldn't really add anything else to procedings so softly said "we have a world where in most cases of you don't have work you've nothing on the table. The messed up the wizarding side of the business big time. Death Eaters destoyed it twice; but twice he rebuilt."
So tucking one book under her arm she smiled again adding "I suppose I'll better get going. These books won't read themselves." She did have to wait until the second book was checked out first before she could absorb the knowledge contained in them.
